Eaga Boost for Transition Footprints

Energy efficiency company Eaga has given a timely boost to the Transition Footprints initiative.  £3000 has been granted by the company, through a fund administered by the Community Foundation for Northern Ireland, to Footprints Women’s Centre to help fund two new composting areas in the grounds of the Centre.

This will enhance the production of the kitchen garden’s fresh fruit and vegetables supply used in the Centre’s catering services. Workshops will also take place to build skills and knowledge among local women and children in the management of the composting areas.

A new seating area will also be added to the centre’s garden, to enhance its physical environment, allowing staff and volunteers to take a well earned rest!

Cormac McAleer from the Community Foundation, said; “Activities like this project can really leave long lasting impacts on our environment and I commend Footprints Women’s Centre for their innovative approach to an important subject.

“Congratulations must go to Eaga for their responsible approach to helping the community.

“In these times of difficulty for the private sector they provide a brilliant example of corporate social responsibility in action.”

Eileen Wilson, Catering, Manager at Footprints Women’s Centre, said; “We are delighted to receive this funding towards what we feel is a very worthwhile project.

“There is a genuine need within the communities in the Poleglass area for a better knowledge of our eco and food systems and this successful project can now be built upon.

Already we have plans to supply fresh produce not only for our own catering services, but to twenty homes in the local area as well.

This donation from Eaga will really help bring these plans to fruition.”

A total of £9,000 was distributed by Eaga to a range of groups across Northern Ireland.  John Morgan, from Eaga, said; “Our organisation is always delighted to support good projects which help create a better environment for all our citizens.

“We congratulate all the groups receiving funding this time around and have no doubt that Footprints Women’s Centre’s excellent activities will make a great impact on the area they serve.”
