Footprints’ Carbon Footprint

Arena Network in association with Bombardier Aerospace have launched their Sustainable Communities Programme. Footprints Women’s Centre has been selected to take part in the programme which is offered free to local community groups.

The three key elements of the programme include:

  1. Environmental Review – groups will be visited and a full audit will be carried out on environmental performance. The areas of focus include:
    • Energy use and management – lighting, heating etc
    • Waste Recycling
    • Water Use
    • Biodiversity
  2. Sustainability Workshops – a series of workshops will be organised on topics relevant to each community group for example, sustainable food, waste and water.
  3. Community Action Days will be organised. The wider community and local businesses will be invited to participate. These will involve environmental activities such as litter pick-ups and planting trees.

We are pleased to report that the initial feedback from the auditors was extremely positive in that we are acting responsibly in most areas.

  • We monitor electric & gas consumption
  • We use low energy bulbs
  • We remind staff regularly to conserve energy
  • We recycle any materials that we can
  • We dispose of old equipment in the proper manner
  • We monitor water usage

Whilst we are satisfied with our efforts to date, there is much that we could improve upon and we will continue to increase our performance in this area. It makes sense from both a financial and an environmental perspective.

We will be looking for members to take part in the sustainability workshops, so if you have a particular interest in the environment, please contact Elizabeth (02890 923444 ext 209) and you will be invited to participate when the dates are set.
